Section 1 - Starting Date
1.1 The first day of practice is determined by the Section.

Section 2 - Official Rules
2.1 The official rule book shall be the United State Tennis Association Rule Book. USTA rules shall prevail unless CVC by-laws are more restrictive.
2.2 All acts of unsportsmanlike conduct shall be reported to the players principal for possible further disciplinary action.
2.3 Any player ejected from a match for unsportsmanlike conduct may not participate in the next match.
2.4 Applicable excerpts from the USTA Rule Book2.4.1Any ball not called a “fault” immediately shall be considered in play.2.4.1.1 If a player does not see or is unsure of a call it is considered good. No outside help is permitted.2.4.2 Servers are to announce the set score before starting a game and the game score before serving each point.2.4.2.1 If players disagree they go back to the last score on which there was no disagreement and resume from that point.
revised 10/15/022.4.2.2 Players may not ask for outside help to determine the score.2.4.3 If you opponent foot faults, advise him/her to correct the problem. If the problem is not corrected request a line judge to make the call.

If a player calls a ball out, but later realizes it was in, the call should be corrected.2.4.5 If a ball rolls onto the court from another game, play shall be stopped immediately and the entire point replayed. If play is not stopped the point will count as played.2.4.6 Coaches, parents and spectators may have no involvement of any kind during a match. Coaches may enter the court to confer with their players during the change within the allotted time frame.2.4.7 Only participants are permitted on the court during matches.2.4.8 Play must be continuous.2.4.8.1 Twenty five (25) seconds allowed between points.2.4.8.2 One minute and thirty seconds (1:30) allowed for the change over.2.4.8.3 Ten minute (10) is allowed between second and third sets.2.4.9 Players must remain on the court at all times. Leaving for water is not permitted, players may bring their own water. Players may leave the court during the ten minute break between the second and third sets.2.4.10 Players may not walk behind a court or enter another court to retrieve a ball until the point has been decided.2.4.11 Players and coaches are expected to display good sportsmanship at all times, on and off the court.2.4.11.1 Acts of unsportsmanlike behavior shall receive a warning for the first offense , lose a game for the 2nd offense and forfeit the match for the third offense.

Examples include but not restricted to: profane language or gestures, hitting ball off court in anger, throwing racket, intentional distractions, delay of game.
revised 10/15/022.4.11.2 Coaches may remove their own players from the court for major unsportsmanlike behavior, without following the progression in 2.4.11.1. Such removal shall cause forfeiture of the match.

The following schedule shall apply: 5 minutes late: Loss of toss plus one (1) game 10 minutes late Loss of toss plus two (2) games 15 minutes late Default2.4.13 Nets must be 3 feet six inches on the sides and 3 feet 0 inches in the middle.
Section 3 - Official Ball
3.1 A standard size Wilson or Penn optic yellow tennis ball. Game balls will be provided by the home team.
Section 4 - Contacts
4.1 The number of contacts allowed is determined by the Section.

4..2 A maximum of two scrimmages is permissible prior to the first game. Scrimmages held after the first game shall be counted as a contact
Section 5 - Match Times
5.1 During Standard Time - 3:30
During Day Light Saving Time - 4:00
>Section 6 - Match Results
6.1 The winning school shall be responsible to notify the media with game results.
Section 7 - Schedule, Roster and Ladder Exchange
7.1 A meeting shall be called by the sports coordinator no later than one week prior to the start of league play.7.1.1 Rosters of all school teams shall be exchanged by the coaches at this meeting. Information to include players name, and year in school.7.1.2 Complete season schedules shall be exchanged by the coaches at this meeting
7.2 Each coach shall submit a team ladder in ranking order to every other coach in the league prior to the first league matches played. All coaches shall be notified if changes occur in the ladder during the course of the season.

7.3 Failure to submit a ladder will result in forfeiture of all matches played until a ladder is submitted.

Section 8 - Championship
8.1 The league champion shall be determined by dual match competition in a double round robin schedule.
8.2 In the event of a tie, multiple champions shall be declared and duplicate awards presented to each school tied.
Section 9 - Section Playoffs
9.1 The number of teams qualifying for participation in the playoff shall be determined by the Section.
9.2 Tie Breakers9.2.1 Two way tie9.2.1.1 The team with the best head to head record shall advance to the section playoffs.9.2.1.2 If head to head competition is equal, a match will be played at a neutral site, if possible, the winner shall advance to the playoffs. If a neutral site can not be arranged, a coin flip will decide the home team.9.2.2 Three way tie9.2.2.1 The team with the best head to head record shall advance to the section playoffs9.2.2.2 If in head to head competition two teams are tied and one team has a poorer record, team with the poorer record is eliminated. The remaining teams will play a match at a neutral site, if possible, the winner shall advance to the playoffs. If a neutral site can not be arranged, a coin flip will decide the home team.9.2.2.3 If head to head competition is equal, the team which won the highest total of league matches shall advance to the playoffs.
9.3 If two teams play a tie breaker match to determine which advances to the playoffs, the current Sac Joaquin Section playoff format will be used.

Section 10 - Rain Outs and Suspended Matches
10.1 The home team will cancel matches by 12:00 Noon if possible in the case of inclement weather.
10.2 By mutual consent of both coaches, a game a game may be suspended due to darkness or inclement weather, the scores, the server and the sides must be recorded. When make up play commences it begins at the point it was suspended.10.2.1 Should an athlete become injured or academically ineligible for the make up, that match will be forfeited. Substitutions may not be made. If both participants are not able to compete it shall be declared a double forfeit.
10.3 Postponed or suspended games shall be made up in the order of the original schedule. Both teams will play on the next day that neither team has a league game scheduled. League make up games must take precedent over a non-league games. If transportation is a factor, the principals of the competing schools will resolve the issue.
10.4 If one team has scored five (5) points at the time darkness or inclement weather forces a suspension of action, that team will be declared the winner of the match and the match will not be rescheduled.

10.5 Under threat of inclement weather or impending darkness, if both coaches agree before the start of a match, a match may be decided by an eight (8) game pro set.
10.6 League matches may not be rescheduled for any reason other than inclement weather.
10.7 Saturday shall not be considered as an open day for make up purposes.
Section 11 - Dual Match Competition
11.1 The following nine matches shall be played: #1 boys and #1 girls singles #2 boys and #2 girls singles #1 boys and #1 girls doubles Mixed Doubles #2 boys doubles and #2 girls doubles. Doubling up single player to play doubles is not permitted in league play.

11.1.1 Matches shall be played with singles first followed by doubles, unless changed by mutual agreement of the coaches.11.1.2 Participants are permitted ten (10) minutes of on court warm up, including serves.11.1.3 A player not ready to play in fifteen (15) minutes from the scheduled match time shall forfeit. (Refer to Section 2.4.12)
11.2 Each school shall establish a boys and girls ladder of players in ranking order position on the ladder shall be determined by the player’s ability and the results of inter-squad challenge matches.

11.3 If a team is short players, everyone must move up the ladder. Matches forfeited would be these at the bottom of the ladder.

11.4 Team points will be awarded for each match won.
11.5 No ad scoring and a twelve (12) point tie breaker shall be used for all matches.11.5.1 A single set tied at 6-6 and a doubles set tied at 9-9 shall be decided by a twelve (12) point tie breaker

Section 12 - Miscellaneous - Activity Specific
12.1 Coaches shall supervise their players at all times and demand good sportsmanship and etiquette.
Section 13 - League Tournament
13.1 The league coordinator shall assign the responsibility for directing the league meet.

13.1.1 Any profit from the operation of the meet will be retained by the host school. Any loss incurred in the operation of the meet will be the responsibility of the host school.
13.2 The tournament shall be conducted over two (2) full days.13.2.1 All Singles matches shall be held on one day, during the week following the final league match. All Doubles will be held on another day in the same week.

13.3 Seeding will take place on the morning of each tournament

Doubles teams will be seeded by their ability.

13.4 Coaches and players must arrive prior to the match starting time. A player not ready after fifteen (15) minutes shall default. (see Section 2.2.12).
13.5 No match may start if a coach is not present.
Section 14 - All Conference Selection
14.1 The tennis coordinator shall call a meeting for Monday evening following the completion of the league season to nominate, discuss and select members of the All-Conference team. Coaches, and the designated Principal shall be informed of the meeting, time and location at least a week in advance. Notification shall be by phone and in writing.

14.2 Coaches may nominate as many players from their own team as they wish, but may not vote for their own players.

14.3 Fourteen (14) players will be selected, including (1) MVP.

14.4 Using an open ballot, coaches shall rank fourteen (14) opponent players with fourteen (14) being the number of points given the highest ranked player.

14.5 In case of a tie for the fourteenth (14th ) spot, those involved in the tie shall be ranked by the coaches and only one named to complete the approved total.

14.6 A second ballot shall be taken to name the MVP. Each school shall have one vote to name the MVP from those selected to be on the All-Conference team. A school may not vote for its candidate. Only one (1) MVP shall be named.

14.7 Any player receiving a vote shall be named “Honorable Mention”.

14.9 All conference selections shall be forwarded to the league commissioner for distribution to the media. Coaches shall not discuss the selections with athletes, media or parents until the certification process is complete.

14.10 No all conference team shall be selected below the varsity level.
